The history of Bakersfield dates back to the 1860's when it was founded by a settler named Colonel Thomas Baker. Shortly after it's establishment, oil was discovered in Bakersfield and to this day serves as on of the city's chief resources. Bakersfield has also made a name for itself for exporting many other things aside from oil, including fruits and vegatables and country music.
